The Dallas Builders Association (Dallas BA) has announced winners in its 2021 ARC Awards, held Aug. 14 at Vouv Dallas and presented in partnership with Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery. The ARC Awards are held to recognize building excellence by associate members, remodelers, and custom builder members of the Association.  Winners were names in 67 categories this year.

The Dallas Builders Association have announced winners in its 2017 ARC Awards, held August 19 at the Westin Galleria and presented in partnership with Centricity. The ARC Awards are held each summer to recognize building excellence by associate members, remodelers and custom builders members of the Association. Winners were named in approximately 75 categories.

Dallas Builders Association Past President Tim Jackson of Tim Jackson Custom Homes was installed as president of the Texas Association of Builders Nov. 12 during its prestigious Texas Housing Hall of Honor and Excellence in Leadership Dinner at the Westin Austin Downtown hotel. The Honorable Travis Clardy conducted the installation ceremony of TAB’s 2016 senior officers.

Jackson served as president of the Dallas Builders Association in 2009 and was last year’s Hugh Prather Award recipient. In 2014 Jackson completed building a home for wounded veteran Stephen Jackel and his family through Operation Finally Home.

Jackson is a life director of the National Association of Home Builders. He has served on the Texas Association of Builders board of directors since 2006 and served as TAB area vice president in 2012-2013.
Jackson has served as president of the Dallas BA’s North Dallas/Collin County Division, its Membership Committee, the Parade of Homes Committee and the Government Relations Committee. He chaired the Dallas Division’s golf tournament and led the construction of two homes for Habitat For Humanity. He has been honored with the Dallas BA’s APEX Award, which recognizes a builder’s professionalism in doing business with associate members, and twice as ARC Custom Builder of the Year. He was the recipient of the 2015 ARC Award for Best New Home.

Custom builder Tim Jackson, CGB, GMB, CGP, of Tim Jackson Custom Homes, was honored with the prestigious 2014 Hugh Prather Award, the highest honor bestowed by the Dallas Builders Association. The award has been presented annually for the past 64 years to a builder, remodeler or developer who has done the most for the betterment of the North Texas region. The 2014 presentation was made during the Association’s Sept. 30 Board of Directors meeting.

This award was named for the Association’s first president, Hugh Prather, in hopes that his principles would serve as a guide for future generations of builders. It is not meant to be simply a “Builder of the Year,” but something more that reflects credit to the building industry. Past recipients include homebuilding icons such as Dave Fox, W.W. Caruth Jr., Bob Folsom, Fred Roach, Kent Conine, Hershel Pierce, Kenny Marchant, Tommy Ford, N.D. Hopkins and Harold Pollman, among others.

2013 Prather recipient Mike Mishler of Mishler Builders presented the award to Jackson, noting that he is “very active at the local, state and national association levels, working to address issues facing the housing industry that affect homebuilders and consumers alike.”

Earlier this summer Tim Jackson, working with the Dallas BA’s charity of choice Operation Finally Home, completed building a mortgage-free home in Little Elm for U.S. Army Sgt. Stephen Jackel. Sgt. Jackel served multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. His long list of service awards includes a Purple Heart, an ARCOM-4 Award for Valor and an Afghanistan Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars, among others. In August 20122, while performing convoy duties in Afghanistan, an IED exploded under the vehicle he occupied with his team. After the blast, Sgt. Jackel saved the lives of his team members by helping get them out of the vehicle and physically put out a fire inside the vehicle with his own leg. He sustained injuries resulting in required bilateral leg amputations as well as a traumatic brain injury.  Mishler stated that Tim Jackson not only built a beautiful new home for Sgt. Jackel, but made sure it was furnished and the pantry was stocked before turning over the keys. “It was an honor to provide a home for this brave young man,” said Jackson. “It means so much to be able to give something back to this local hero in appreciation for his service and sacrifice to our country.”

From the moment Army Sergeant Stephen Jackel walked through the door of his new Little Elm house, he was like a kid at Christmas. “Oh God this is amazing,” Sgt. Jackel says, laughing. Sgt. Jackel and his unit were attacked by an IED in Afghanistan, and he used his legs to save his fellow soldiers. That’s why “Operation Finally Home” decided to gift Sgt. Jackel, his wife and their six kids with the six-bedroom home. “With their disabilities, situation with the VA we’re having right now, people just don’t realize what they’re up against,” says “Operation Finally Home” president Dan Wallrath.

Every room Sgt. Jackel ventured to, he found features built just for him. The house is fully handicapped accessible, with an elevator and a fire suppression system. “Operation Finally Home” worked with custom home builder Tim Jackson to put it together.

The gift is peace of mind, for the man who was willing to give everything, when he had to. “For us to not ever have a concern like this for the rest of our life, we don’t have to worry about getting a home, we’re in ours,” says Sgt. Jackel. “Man, I love America”

“Operation Finally Home” has been building those mortgage-free homes for veterans for almost nine years now. The organization has provided more than 130 homes for military families in 28 states.

Local Dallas builder Tim Jackson Custom Homes, in partnership with Operation FINALLY HOME, The Dallas Builders Association, LP Building Products and American Country Countdown with Kix Brooks is nearing the final stages of the custom-built, mortgage-free home being built for wounded combat veteran U.S. Army Sgt. Stephen Jackel and his family.
Sgt. Jackel was injured in an IED blast in August 2011 while on a convoy mission in Afghanistan. Following the blast, Jackel saved the lives of several soldiers by helping them out of the decimated vehicle while putting out flames with his amputated leg. His injuries included bilateral below the knee amputations and a traumatic brain injury. Jackel is married to Adriana and together they have six children.

Tim Jackson, CGB, GMB, CGP, of Tim Jackson Custom Homes Inc. was installed Nov. 21 as vice president/secretary of the Texas Association of Builders. 2014 officers were installed at TAB’s Excellence in Leadership Dinner at the Driskill Hotel in Austin on Nov. 21. Texas Commissioner of Agriculture Todd Staples conducted the installation ceremony. Jackson served as president of the Dallas BA in 2009.

“One major issue facing our industry is the labor shortage,” Jackson stated. “We have to start pushing for more vocational training in our high schools and community colleges that will provide training and education for skills specific to our industry.”

Jackson notes that another huge concern that TAB has is the direction that energy codes are heading. “Our Association (both local and state) needs to push for statewide legislation that provides a cap for the required energy efficiency of new homes,” he said.

Jackson has been a member of the Dallas Builders Association since 1997. He builds primarily in the Fairview, Lucas, Prosper and McKinney areas. His company has won numerous awards, including the ARC Custom Builder of the Year and the APEX Award, which recognizes a builder’s professionalism in doing business with associate members.

He has chaired the Dallas BA’s Parade of Homes, Membership Development Committee and Membership Retention Committee. He served as president of the North Dallas/Collin County Division, where he chaired the golf tournament for four years and the division’s Habitat for Humanity project. He is currently building a home in Little Elm for a wounded veteran through Operation Finally Home.

Jackson is also a national director and an active participant in HOMEPAC.

He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1985 with a BBA degree in finance.
